The Carolina Electric Vehicle Coalition, Inc. was established to provide public education concerning electric vehicle science and to help advance the research and development of electric vehicle science. In particular, the Coalition is intended to increase the general public's understanding of electric vehicle technology. The Coalition has been recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as meeting the requirements in section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The Carolina EV Challenge is the Coalition's primary activity. Under the oversight of the Coalition, the Challenge has grown from an informal competition involving a few high schools to a regional program involving over eighteen schools and a diverse group of sponsors including government, industry, and nonprofit agencies.
In sponsoring the Carolina EV Challenge program, the Coalition will continue to work with various groups that have an interest in increasing the knowledge and use of electric vehicles. These will include university and related research programs as well as state and private agencies. As interest and awareness of electric vehicle science grows, the Coalition hopes to play a leading role in coordinating research on electric vehicle technologies and supporting a centralized clearinghouse for information on electric vehicle science..
