Benefits

East Gaston High School's Automotive Technology and Electrical Trades programs were introduced to the EV program around the time that the 1999 school year began. Once introduced to the program, Mr. Caldwell and Mr. Alexander pulled out all the stops in getting the program started at the school. They were donated a truck from Peachtree Ford in Gaffney, SC. Once they had the truck, students from the Auto Tech (II&III) and Electrical Trades (II&III) classes totally overhauled it. The truck went from a completely stock 1986 Ranger to an entirely electrical monster.

The E.V. competition has allowed students to establish new skills and has instilled self-motivation

Some of the skills that have been obtained by all the students participating in the EV challenge:
Computer skills · Math skills · Problem solving skills · Presentational skills · Team-work skills
· And most important, the feeling of accomplishment·
